Poster Il Cielo in una Stanza, Gino Paoli
Il Cielo in una stanza, composed by the singer-songwriter Gino Paoli, first published for Mina's interpretation in the 45 rpm single Il cielo in una stanza/La notte in 1961, is one of the most famous and celebrated songs in the history of Italian music.
As told by Paoli himself, the text describes the meeting with a prostitute which took place in a brothel in Genoa recognizable by the "purple ceiling".
Despite the topic covered, it is considered one of the most relevant expressions of Italian songwriting and an artistic masterpiece.
The highly poetic image, which evokes the act of paid sex performed in the room with the purple ceiling, transfigures circumstances and environments.
The refined melody, initially slow and confidential, gradually leads towards infinite and dreamy spaces, reaching the maximum musical and poetic intensity, and then returning to the initial intimacy at the end.
