Work description

Supponiamo un mattino, tu ti alzi e ami me.

Supponiamo un amore, Rino Gaetano

Pinafore with an unlikely bow, little basket, mess tin, a plastic cup that snaps open and shut for no reason at all — and suddenly you're right back in an eighties nursery school. Eighties nursery school is the first school of life. Eighties nursery school sets the whole course. Eighties nursery school is the root cause of everything. Eighties nursery school is exactly who you are now. Eighties nursery school was my first Vietnam.

Every time I think about my eighties nursery school, I feel like Willem Dafoe in that scene in Platoon where he's running from the Viet Cong. Exactly that one.

At my eighties nursery school, once, that cow of a teacher asked me something like: "Hey little Gix, what's your favourite letter?" Me, without a moment's hesitation: "Q." "Hahahaha," she laughed right in my face, that b*tch, "but Q is disabled, it always needs another letter!"

I loved Q. I still love it, from the very first moment I saw it, with that little stroke that touches, that cuts through the circle. Sometimes stern, rigid, dark. Other times more elastic, freer. And what I love most is that Q always needs U. Actually, I think it's genuinely magic. Deep down, Q is happy to always have U right there beside it — it never feels alone. And U is happy about Q too, because together, different as they are, they make such a lovely sound. Sure, they had to learn to really know each other, over time. But it's beautiful, if you think about it.

"Hey little Gix, go on, pick another favourite letter." "Fine then, I'll pick H!"

Signature and Hallmarking
Each artwork is signed by the artist and embossed with the UCN dry seal.
It's worth knowing

We are not a print shop. We are an artisan workshop in Naples where each work is born from a discussion about the song, the artist's history, and the meaning of those words for those who have experienced them.

Every piece that leaves our workshop is unique. Not for marketing purposes, but by nature: typography is not a perfectly reproducible process. The mark remains.
